Ever since he was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves first overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, Anthony Edwards has made quick work of establishing himself as one of the brightest young stars in the league.
He’s improved every single year, both as an on-ball offensive engine and as a perimeter defender, and has already notched several notable playoff performances throughout his young career.
He impressed so much so early that it convinced the T-Wolves brass to swing a major trade to try to capitalize on his rapid ascension in pursuit of an NBA title.
The world will not soon forget that Minnesota shipped off a massive package including four future first-round picks and rookie standout Walker Kessler to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Rudy Gobert, just for them to have a similarly quick postseason exit to their 2022 playoff appearance.

Edwards has yet to make his official debut for USA basketball, but he’s already established himself as this roster’s go-to guy throughout a few weeks worth of training and practice and a couple of exhibition games.
His latest performance was a 34-point masterclass in a comeback win against the German national team. His dominance this offseason has launched him into the public eye and made him a household name in many new homes in the United States.
While the Minnesota Timberwolves are surely delighted that their franchise cornerstone is getting the attention he deserves on a national level, his development into a true superstar will place a lot of pressure on the organization as well. After last season’s disappointing campaign, this upcoming year will almost certainly be a make-it-or-break-it ordeal for the decision-makers for the team.

If the Rudy Gobert experiment turns out to be a complete disaster in year two, it’ll be pretty difficult to imagine the hotshots who called in that deal surviving the following offseason. There have already been plenty of trade murmurs surrounding Minnesota’s other star in Karl-Anthony Towns. If the T-Wolves own Minnesota Twins can’t find a way to succeed together, the front office might be motivated to split up their two true bigs in efforts to protect their own jobs.
