Hockey World Cup 2023: India Denied by England in a Thrilling Game in Pool D Match | News Article by bettingoddsforfree.com

India and England’s face-off on the ground of hockey has always been thrilling occasions. And Sunday’s match was no exception. India’s second match of Group D in the Hockey World Cup 2023 against the English side was a neck-to-neck contest between the two even sides, with a 0-0 draw.

Both teams left the field with credible gameplay at the Birsa Munda International Stadium. England is now at the top of the chart, whereas India needs to beat Wales in the next match by a good margin to prevent a crossover mess and make it to the next stage safe and secure.

A 0-0 stalemate, where no party could score, was full of drama and resilience. The game began on an intense note until the minute after which England took command of the match. For almost the entire first half, India’s infield performance was barely visible.

England continuously pushed towards the opposite side, generated consecutive opportunities, and steered the game in its fashion. They won five penalty corners within a couple of minutes, meanwhile. Manpreet Singh and Amit Rohidas somehow manage to deny the men in red.

The hosts stumbled on the field like armatures. They made basic trapping errors, couldn’t connect the passes properly and failed to chase oppositions.

The conceded penalty corners are a consequence of the sluggish movement of the entire front line. India earned fewer penalty corners, most of which were missed due to poor judgment. They appeared oblivious, even when the ball was hovering inside England’s circle despite jamming in the circle.

India’s performance was hard to match with the previous game against Spain, where they stood firm and unified. They hardly hold the position for more than a minute at once. At the last of the second quarter, there was a slight momentum shift when India regrouped to play their natural game.

Graham Reid, coach of the Indian squad, looked exhausted on the sidelines. After the break, India looked cheerful; they were meeting the crosses, creating more chances. India managed to break the deadlock situation and to keep shooting on target.

But the exceptional performance by Oliver Payne protected the English net. He won the well-deserved player of the match award.

Hardik Singh played a vital role in the match. But he had to leave the field, sustaining a hamstring injury just three minutes before the final whistle. Singh was playing as an all-rounder, defending, assisting and attacking in the circle. In the remaining 19 seconds, England earned a penalty corner that shook the heart, but the Blues managed to tackle the situation and keep the hope alive for India.
